Please read before ordering
Check your engine's model and year code against the kit before ordering and compare the parts to the photos. The 40 was built in several versions and the starter mounting differs.
Aftermarket kit. The model name is used only to identify the engines it fits.
An electric start conversion also needs a battery, battery cables, a starter solenoid and a charging circuit capable of keeping the battery topped up. Check what your engine already has and what the kit includes before ordering.
This is not a simple bolt-on for most engines. If you are not experienced with outboards, have a marine mechanic do it.
Safety
Disconnect the battery before working on the engine, and keep the kill cord out.
Never crank an outboard in gear. Make sure the neutral safety switch works after conversion — a boat that starts in gear will run away.
Marine battery installations need the correct fusing and secure mounting. Loose or unfused battery cables in a boat are a fire risk.
