Safety — read this first
Brakes are a safety-critical system. A badly formed flare leaks under pressure, and a brake line that leaks means no brakes.
Cut the line square and deburr it before flaring. Make test flares on offcuts until they come out clean, and inspect every flare before fitting. After any brake work the system must be bled properly and pressure-tested before the vehicle is driven.
If you are not experienced with brake lines, have this done by a mechanic. Brake fluid strips paint and irritates skin and eyes. Keep out of reach of children.
