Use
The ring does two useful things: it holds the screw so you can start it one-handed, and it keeps the bit square to the screw, which is what stops the bit camming out and chewing the head.
Check whether they are impact rated before using them in an impact driver; standard bits snap. Keep the magnetic ring away from hard drives, cards and mechanical watches.
Bits are consumables — replace one as soon as the tip looks rounded. Wear eye protection.
