Fuel — important

• 2-stroke: runs on a petrol/oil mix. Straight petrol will destroy the engine.
• The supplier recommends a 40:1 mix during the running-in period, then moving to 25:1 for normal use. Check the sticker on your own machine — if it differs, follow the machine.
• Use fresh fuel. Petrol older than about a month causes most starting problems on 2-stroke garden tools.

Good to know

• The airflow figure is the supplier's and has not been independently tested. Blowers are usually rated in CFM (cubic feet per minute) and MPH; this figure is quoted per hour, so it cannot be compared directly to other machines.
• Petrol blowers are loud and vibrate. They are not the right tool for a small courtyard.

Safety — please read

• Wear eye protection and hearing protection. A blower throws grit and stones at high speed.
• Wear a dust mask when blowing dry dust or sand.
• Never run it in a garage, shed or any enclosed space — petrol exhaust contains carbon monoxide, which is invisible, has no smell and kills.
• Let the engine cool before refuelling. Do not refuel a hot machine.
• Keep children, pets and bystanders well clear, and never point the tube at anyone.
• Many towns restrict when petrol blowers may be used, and some ban 2-stroke blowers entirely. Check your local rules.
