Use
Follow the existing bevel angle and keep the stone moving. Holding it in one spot burns the temper out of the steel — the edge then goes blunt almost immediately and cannot be fixed by sharpening. Keep the blade cool; dip it in water if it starts to discolour.
Take the same amount off each end of a mower blade. An unbalanced mower blade shakes the machine apart and wrecks the bearings. Check the balance before refitting.
Safety
Disconnect the spark plug lead or remove the battery before touching a mower blade, and wear heavy gloves. Never exceed the stone's rated speed — abrasive stones shatter above it. Wear impact-rated eye protection and a dust mask, and clamp the workpiece.
