This is a cosmetic moisturiser, not a medicine. It does not firm skin. Dark circles come from genetics, thin skin and tiredness — a cream reaches none of them.

Kojic acid is a skin-lightening ingredient, and its use in cosmetics is restricted in some countries. No concentration is stated here, which is the only figure that would tell you anything. It commonly causes contact dermatitis, and the skin around the eye is the thinnest on the body and the most likely to react.

A warning about lightening products: imported lightening products are a known source of banned ingredients — mercury, high-strength hydroquinone and undeclared steroids. Read the full ingredient list on the pack and do not use it if the list is missing. Steroids used near the eye can raise eye pressure and cause glaucoma. For pigmentation you want treated, see a doctor or dermatologist.

Safety

Use sun protection daily — essential with anything affecting pigment. Apply on the orbital bone, well away from the lash line. Never get it in the eye — rinse thoroughly with water if you do. Patch test and wait 24 hours before first use. Take out contact lenses before applying. Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding without medical advice. Stop at the first sign of redness, stinging or swelling. Keep out of reach of children.
