Use a plain drill, not hammer mode. Hammer action cracks tile and glass.
- Start slowly with tape over the spot so the tip does not wander, and keep the tip cool with water.
- Carbide bits handle tile and soft masonry. They will not last long in hard concrete or engineering brick — use a proper SDS masonry bit for that.
Safety
- Wear eye protection. Wear a dust mask — tile, porcelain and concrete dust contains silica, which permanently damages lungs.
- Check for cables and pipes before drilling into a wall.
