Check the angle you need and the pilot size for your valve guides. Cutting a seat at the wrong angle, or with a pilot that does not match the guide, ruins the head.

Valve seat cutting is a machinist's job. The seat has to be concentric with the guide, at the right width and in the right place on the valve face, or the engine will not seal and the valves will burn. Worn guides must be replaced first.
- If you are not experienced with cylinder head work, take the head to a machine shop — a spoiled head costs far more than the machining.
Safety
- The blades are extremely sharp. Handle and store them carefully.
- Wear eye protection. Turn the cutter slowly and steadily by hand.
