Good to know
Step drills are for thin sheet material — sheet metal, plastic, thin ply. They are not for drilling deep holes in thick steel.
The set covers the same hole sizes as many individual bits, but it does not replace a full drill index for depth work.
The titanium coating is a surface treatment. It reduces friction and helps the edge last; it does not make the bit harder all the way through, and it wears off with resharpening.
Safety
Wear eye protection. Drilling metal throws hot swarf.
Clamp the work. A step drill grabbing in sheet metal will spin the workpiece into a blade.
Use cutting fluid on metal and run at low speed. High speed burns the edge off.
Do not wear gloves near a rotating drill — they can catch and pull your hand in.
