Use — how not to scratch your paint

Chenille is much kinder to paint than a bristle brush, but the rule is the same: rinse the car thoroughly first, use plenty of soapy water, and rinse the head often.

Never let the head touch the ground. One piece of grit picked up off the drive gets dragged across every panel afterwards — that is where swirl marks come from.

Wash the head separately from ordinary laundry, never with fabric softener, and let it dry fully.

Safety

Look up before extending a long handle. Overhead power lines and a wet pole are a fatal combination, and this happens with telescopic poles every year.
