Never bar an engine over with the starter connected or the ignition live. Disconnect the batteries first.
- Remove the barring tool before attempting to start the engine. Leaving one fitted destroys the flywheel and the tool, and throws parts.
- Keep hands clear of the flywheel housing while turning.
