What to expect
A dial-adjusted iron of this type has no temperature feedback — the dial sets power, not a held temperature. It works fine for general electronics and hobby soldering. For fine board work or anything demanding, a temperature-controlled station holds a real setpoint.
Safety
A soldering iron tip reaches 300–400°C and looks exactly the same hot or cold. Always return it to the stand, never put it down on the bench, and never leave it plugged in unattended.
Work with fume extraction or good ventilation — solder and flux fumes are harmful and can sensitise your airways. Wear eye protection; solder spits. Wash your hands afterwards, especially with leaded solder, and never eat or drink while soldering.
Check the mains lead before each use and keep it away from the tip — melting through your own cable is a common accident. Let the iron cool fully before packing it away.
