Important — what this can and cannot do

This tag works through Apple's Find My network. It shows the last place another nearby Apple device happened to detect it.

It has no GPS chip and no SIM. It does not give live real-time tracking, and it will report nothing at all in a field, a wood, or anywhere with no Apple devices around — which is exactly where a lost pet usually is.
- It also cannot tell you which direction your pet went, only where it was last seen.

It is not a substitute for a microchip, which is a legal requirement for dogs and cats in the UK, and it is not a substitute for a proper GPS collar if you genuinely need live tracking.
