For dry food only. Wet or semi-moist food will jam the mechanism and spoil.

Test it for several days while you are at home before relying on it. Automatic feeders jam, mis-portion and occasionally dispense the whole hopper.
- Check whether it has a battery backup for a power cut. Without one, a mains-only feeder stops dead.

Never leave a pet with an automatic feeder as the only food source without someone checking in daily. A jammed feeder means an animal is not eating.
- Check the kibble size it handles — large or odd-shaped kibble jams these.
- Empty and wash the hopper regularly; oils in dry food go rancid.
