Before you order
Check your machine's handbook for the maximum line diameter it takes. Line that is too thick will not feed, jams the head and overloads the motor or engine — a common way to burn out an electric strimmer.
Octagonal line cuts more cleanly than round but breaks more readily on hard obstacles, because the corners are stress points. It suits open grass better than strimming around fences and walls.
A tip worth knowing
Nylon line dries out in storage and goes brittle. Soaking a spool in water for a day before use makes old line noticeably less prone to snapping — worth doing with a bulk roll that will last you a couple of seasons.
Safety
Wear eye protection and sturdy shoes, and keep people and pets well away — a strimmer throws stones and broken line at speed. Fit the machine's guard and never run it without one. Keep clear of tree trunks; strimmer line strips bark and kills young trees.
